I agree.. Always contact the developer first.

The guy is just giving his opinion. If the plugin is slow for him, that′s all. If after that, the developer team can help him and fix it, then he can change the rate.
It seems Internal Links is upset and angry for the comments. You have to be more friendly with the negative comments.
