    Hi!
I’m having problems with my website gbfhobby.se. If I update to higher than 3.9, my visual editing wont work and the whole website (from the admins point of view) gets messed up.
But having wordpress stuck in 3.9 wont work in the long run, so I need to get it fixed, besides I’m also having trouble with my calendar.
The calendar cant show icons and the calender widget looks messed up
Have any of you had/have this problem and know what I need to do, or is it just to start from scratch, which would be hell..
I’ve tried disabling all the plugins but no luck…
    thanks!

Try downloading WordPress again and delete then replace your copies of everything except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings. Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.

This will place you on 3.9.2, which you should be on regardless, as it plugins some publicly known security vulnerabilities.

If you still have trouble, try deactivating all plugins. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the Twenty Fourteen theme to rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

    Thank you for replying.

And that’s with all plugins disabled (yes, all of them) and the Twenty Fourteen theme active (not another theme)?

    (@alibabbs)

yes. when using the twenty fourteen everything on the admin page works, but the site looks like come help me die

Can you give us a link to the site with the problem?

Your site can’t access any of the theme Twenty Ten’s files.

Access your server via FTP or SFTP and navigate to /wp-content/themes/. Do you have a directory under there called “twentyten”? Is there a file called “style.css” in there?

If yes to both, try changing the permissions of all files in the /wp-content/themes/twentyten/ directory to 644.

If that makes no difference, change them permissions on the /wp-content/themes/twentyten/ directory itself to 755.

If you haven’t customized the Twenty Ten theme at all, it might be easier to just delete and re-install the theme via the Appearance section of your blog’s Dashboard (you will need to activate a different theme first).

Tried this and nothing of it worked…

    (@alibabbs)

when I change the permission to 644 nothing happened. when I was going to change it to 755 instead, I saw that it had change (by itself) to 744?

    (@alibabbs)

the admin dashboard and all works now, but the website looks really weird still.

    Moderator James Huff

    (@macmanx)

Ok, so try 755, or are you saying that it always changes back to 744 no matter what you do?

    Thread Starter alibabbs

    (@alibabbs)

    No i’ve tried 755 too.
My admin side of the website works now, but the way the website looks is still messed up

    (@macmanx)

Ok, try 755 on /wp-content/themes/ and /wp-content/ too. If that doesn’t work, I recommend getting in touch with your hosting provider.

    Thread Starter alibabbs

    (@alibabbs)

Thanks for all your help. I looked over the permissions on those you told me too and both were 755.
I’ve contacted my hosting provider and waiting for an answer
Thanks again. It did help me a bit, they say it can be something about it being an issue with the css

    Moderator James Huff

    (@macmanx)

Then they really didn’t look for you at all I’m afraid. ??

The issue is https://gbfhobby.se/wp-content/themes/twentyten/style.css Access Denied. The file can’t even be accessed by anything, it’s not a CSS issue if the file can’t even be accessed.

That should be something they can help you with, if they bothered to even look.

Last thing to try, what is the contents of the .htaccess file in the root WordPress directory?
