  • Login to your site using FTP or CPanel and rename your plugins folder to plugins.HOLD. See if that fixes the problem.

    If not, rename your active theme in the same way.

    If that doesn’t work, do a manual update:

    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Updating_WordPress#Manual_Update

    can you login to your website?

    Nope absolutely nothing

    at wp-login.php ?

    try the steps mentioned by WpYogi then

    Ok, ill try that but will have to wait for web hoster to get back, if those don’t work is their anything else i can try?

    my sites down as well after upgrading to latest wordpress…

    My site is down also after upgrading to WP 4.1.2.

    In Chrome a request to the site eventually times out, in Opera I am presented with a 500 internal server error after a long wait.

    I’ve renamed my plugins folder to plugins_OLD to disable all plugins but that doesn’t cause any change in behavior.

    Eddie

    I manually re installed 4.1.1 using the instructions at https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Updating_WordPress#Manual_Update but that also hasn’t fixed things.

    Same here

    Site automatically upgraded to 4.1.2 and now my site is dead with an internal server error. No front end or admin access.

    Anyone have a fix?

    @adventureridingnz
    donot revert back to 4.1.1 download 4.1.2 and replace files as mentioned in following article

    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Updating_WordPress#Manual_Update

    @paulcreedy

    try what WPyogi has mentioned first.

    I’ve tried renaming the plugins folder – didn’t work
    I tried renaming the theme it is using – didn’t work
    I tried uploading the site manually – didn’t work

    I still have a dead site that happened on an auto upgrade.

    Not sure what to try next other than killing the whole thing and reverting to a backup which I luckily have from the previous day.

    @paulcreedy – have you asked your hosting company or looked at the server error logs?

    Hi

    I am the hosting company ??

    I have an increasing number of clients sites down, my own included.

    On a plus note I’ve figured out how to get at least one of the sites back online.

    I renamed the .htaccess file.
    Visited the site and it appeared to work, then go into the permalinks and save

    You then end up with a new .htacces file.

    Comparing the two files, the one that didn’t work had what appears to be malformed text at the end of it

    # BEGIN WordPress
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
    </IfModule>

    # END WordPress
    ule . /index.php [L]
    </IfModule>

    # END WordPress

    @laliz as further above I had already tried what WPyogi suggested with changing the name of the plugins folder to disable it.

    I’ve also checked my .htaccess file as per @paulcreedy but there was no malformed text at the end of mine.

    # BEGIN WordPress
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
    </IfModule>

    # END WordPress

    I’m back online again!

    I found for my site the security settings for index.php and wp-login.php had been corrupted. I’m running on a Windows based Virtual Server and when I tried to look at the Properties > Security settings for those 2 files in Windows Explorer the settings could not be retrieved and I could not edit/update the settings.

    It took a little bit of trial and error to delete index.php and wp-login.php due to the security settings issue but eventually I was able to.
    I downloaded 4.1.2 from here https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Updating_WordPress#Manual_Update and manually replaced index.php and wp-login.php with the new versions

    My site is fairly complex with ~40 plugins running and I am still re introducing plugins one at a time but I’ve done about 15 of them and it’s looking good so far.
