• Hi everyone!
I recently made a blog https://www.iecp.co.uk but something seems to be missing and i dont know what it is! it just looks kinda bare..

Please can you suggest something to put into the site? or do i feel this way because there are no adverts like most websites?

    Thank you!!

  • I wouldn’t worry about it looking bare — it really doesn’t look that bare to me. Personally, I’d probably just add a bit more padding to the content and between posts, to really hammer home a clean look.

Potentially, you could actually ditch the sidebar altogether and just have a few navigation elements at the top. For a site about photography, that could be a nice way of emphasizing the photos themselves, by having them span full-width.

Since it’s a photography site, the standards are raised a bit. First, I would start with an image header or logo. Just using the theme text doesn’t do your site justice.

Secondly, as ericdaams suggested, you’ll need real navigational elements. I would probably go with a category nav, either at the top or on the side. Using tags would also help provide quick links. Archive links by date is utterly useless.

Lastly, you might want to add an about page to describe yourself.

Thanks for your suggestions, i think i will try to include a navigation bar at the top of the page under the logo

    Thank you

    Hi Luke,
Your right in that your website does look like its finished or polished. I would remove the lines in the background. It is distracting and really doesn’t add much. Try adding a mid/light tone grey color to make your content pop out.

Your header is not very dynamic. A weak bckgrd color with white makes it fade into the bkgrd. Try a bolder color or even a dark grey so your header Text pop out. Perhaps a white header with an outline and a color for the Text.

Your link rollovers are too light, you cannot see the text and adds to a weak experience.

Your photos are great. Let them be the star, just make the colors work in harmony.

Like what john649 said, “Your photos are great. Let them be the star”

Themeforest has some nice “photo” based WordPress themes you can get some ideas from, or you can shell out about $30 and just buy one…

I didn’t look at them all, but I kind of liked this one…

    Hi,
I recently tried out a photo-based theme that I thought was quite nice even though I decided to go another direction. You should download it and take a look.

    Theme:
    AutoFocus 1.0.1 by Allan Cole
AutoFocus is a WordPress theme specifically for photographers looking for a simple and elegant way to display their work online.

Aside from putting in a little more padding on the elements and removing the lines on the background, I don’t see anything wrong with it.

A photography site for me would be best if the users eyes get focused on the images.

I also like Autofocus as it does exactly what I just said and more.

Great design i also recommend removing the background lines. you cant go wrong with pure white…
