• Hello, I need to be able to blog in both Japanese and English.

Right now, if I start typing an entry in Japanese, although it shows readable up in my browser as I write it, if I publish that entry, it will show up as question marks on the page.

Is this simply an issue of installing the language to WordPress? Or something simpler, such as I need to specify Japanese fonts somehow in my CSS?

If so, how is that done, or if not, what else can I do?

    Thanks for any help.

  • There must be a problem with the encoding of your blog. Normally, WP has the utf-8 character encoding which should display ANY language and all kind of characters even in the same post.

Really? Yes, that is how I thought it should be. I used Movable Type in the past, and Japanese language would always show up.

Do you have any idea where I should fix this issue?

OK, somehow I have gotten it to display Japanese in posts, but for example in a design element, such as a title within the sidebar, or anything else that is not a post will display as question marks.

Basically anything that is done within the .php files that make up my template will only show up in English.

    Any idea?

You are NOT saving those edited .php files with utf-8 encoding! Even Notepad has that option to select the encoding when you click on the Save As button.

Are you serious!!! That simple ahahah.
I am using “Smultron” to edit code and I couldn’t find encoding settings anywhere.

OK I will try that, thanks!
