    Would really appreciate some help since I clearly have no idea what the hell I’m doing. First things first:

    Issue: I recently did a couple of things, one of them was upgrade to 3.8.1 (through App update on GoDaddy), and the other was to install a new custom theme for my site. When all of these changes happened, I needed to update some ad code that runs on the sidebar/top of my website, and here’s the thing that’s making me pull my hair out… In one of my sidebar text widgets I updated the ad code, it’s THE EXACT SAME CODE that was there before, I just re-copied and pasted it in and hit save. On the text widget I didn’t touch, the ad still appears fine. On the one I did touch, nothing appears.

    Things I’ve tried:
    – All manner of cache-clearing/viewing through different browsers: No change
    – Deactivating ALL plugins: No change
    – Re-activating the old theme to see if the text widgets would work: No change
    – Installing and using Enhanced Text Widget: No change
    – Things I don’t understand but happened to find in other posts on issues with javascript in text widgets from like a year ago: No change
    – Copying and pasting the ad code into a post instead of sidebar widget: Still didn’t show up
    – Drinking half a bottle of wine: Slight change, unrelated to website.

    While I totally get that something is broken on the site, I’m mostly perplexed by why the one widget I didn’t touch is still working. I suspect it’s mostly to taunt me.

    The site should have a banner add at the top, and a 160×600 in the sidebar below the existing ad and above the “awesomeness by other people” section.

    Any advice would be greatly appreciated! (Or if you need more info than I’ve provided here… I’m a complete novice at this, but I’m pretty good at following directions.)

    Ah. So I reviewed– and you have to understand you’re dealing with someone who builds houses, not websites– and I have two questions:

    1.) I’ve been running ads with this ad code on my site for the last 3 years and as far as I know, never had to add code into the header.php file to make it work. Has something changed recently that would make this the case? Is this why ads in widgets I haven’t touched work and in widgets I have recently saved they do not? (I’m only asking because that might help me determine exactly WHAT I need to “call”)

    2.) Regardless of wine-consumption and/or general understanding of code, I can copy and paste pretty accurately. From what I understand in that page, I should try adding the following to my header file:

    <script type="text/javascript" src="/scripts/emailpage.js"></script>

    I assume the “emailpage.js” portion of this needs to be edited to whatever I need it to be, except… I don’t understand this enough to know what I need it to be.

    Is there something in that post that should be obvious to me as to why this isn’t working?

    Apologize for the complete lack of understanding here, but I’ve been running this site for years and have never head to deal with this, so I’m out of my depth, apparently.

    It appears I also have an issue with the media uploader (I’m predisposed to thinking any “new” issues are related, but I don’t know enough about it to verify this.)

    Inside a post when I click the “Media” button, I don’t see any images in the library, and when I try to upload an image it gives me an “upload failed” error. However, when I go to the Media Library through the menu in the main WP dashboard, all of the images are there, including any I tried to upload and got the “failed” error on.

    I’m only bringing this up because I saw some issues with admin interfaces in other posts I read about the 3.8.1 update. Anyone have ideas if this is related, or a separate issue I’m dealing with?

    What version of PHP is your site running?

    PHP version is 5. (Looks like I could activate a 5.2 or 5.3 if needed?)

    I would recommend so, but review first what is recommended by your theme and each plugin in use. That said, keep PHP at most up to date version available, MySQL also, and WP core at most recent version.

    Only use themes and plugins that work well with that. Not updating a site due to old themes and plugins is strongly discouraged.

    So, the last thing I did before I went to bed was to upgrade to PHP 5.3, no change. Woke up this morning AND THE ENTIRE SITE IS GONE.

    I get a blank screen no matter what I try to access.

    Files for the site still exist in the folder for the site through my FTP (I’m not saying ALL the files are there because I wouldn’t know, but it looks like what I usually see when I dig in there.)

    So this issue has just gotten exponentially worse. Any idea if this is related to the PHP upgrade or something?

    I reverted to wordpress 3.8 through Godaddy, and the site reappeared. Same issues with the ads, etc, but that seems minor in comparison.

    I am fairly confident that your issue is not directly related to your last two posts here as GD runs a gazilion (yes, let’s use that number) of WP sites on PHP5.3.
    Also, reverting from 3.8.1 to 3.8 is just going to set the course for an auto-update to take you to 3.8.1 anyways. Did you mean to note that the site was restored to a time when 3.8 was in use? Have you lost any content?
