When I updated JetPack to 3.2, my website (zacheverson.com) went down. I didn’t get any error messages, just a blank screen—except for a little smiley face in the top left corner. Deactivating JetPack got my site back to normal. Has anyone else reported this issue? And will an update fix it? Thanks!

I’m having the same problem. Once activated my site is blank. When I deactivate the site is fine.

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

@z_everson Could you try to log in to your site via FTP, delete the existing Jetpack plugin folder, and reinstall the plugin manually as explained here:
    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Managing_Plugins#Manual_Plugin_Installation

Let me know how it goes.

@pw EDEN I replied to the other thread you started here.

Thanks @jeremy Herve. I deleted the Jetpack plugin folder via FTP, and then manually reinstalled in via the instructions. After activating it (step 6 in your instructions), I experienced the same issue: just a blank screen—except for a little smiley face in the top left corner. Deleting the plugin brought back my site.

    Any other suggestions? Thanks again!

Could you give it another try, and then go to Jetpack > Settings and click on “Configure” next to Jetpack’s Stats module? You will be able to hide the smiley from there.

If that doesn’t help, could you then try to deactivate each one of the Jetpack modules, one at a time, from the Jetpack settings page, and let me know if you find a conflicting module?

    Thanks!

    Gladly @jeremy Herve.

    I just

    1. manually reinstalled Jetpack
    2. at WordPress > Plugins activated the Jetpack plugin (as before, this caused my site to crash)
    3. connected Jetpack to my WordPress.com account
    4. at Jetpack > Settings > WordPress.com Stats> Configure selected the box next to “Hide the stats smiley face image” and then Save configuration

My website remained down, just blank screens.

In order, I then deactivated each of the following modules (which were the ones activated upon installation; I didn’t activate any modules on my own), refreshing my browser after each one to see if my website was back (I didn’t reactivate any modules before moving on to the next one):

    1. Beautiful Math
    2. Contact Form
    3. Custom CSS
    4. Custom Content Types
    5. Enhanced Distribution
    6. Extra Sidebar Widget
    7. Gravar Hovercards
    8. JSON API
    9. Jetpack Comments
    10. Monitor
    11. Notifications
    12. Omnisearch
    13. Post by Email
    14. Publicize
    15. Related Posts
    16. Sharing
    17. Shortcode Embeds
    18. Site Verification
    19. Spelling and Grammar
    20. Subscriptions
    21. Widget Visibility
    22. WordPress.com Stats

At this point all JetPack modules were deactivated. My site remained blank. So I returned to WordPress > Plugins and deactivated the Jetpack plugin, restoring my site.

Thanks again for your help. Any other suggestions?

    Thanks for trying.

Could you contact your hosting provider, and ask them to check your server error logs? The blank page you mention could be a “white screen of death“, and if we knew more about the server error, we might be able to fix things.

    Thanks!

Gladly. I just submitted a ticket with them. I’ll follow up in a day with them if I haven’t heard back. Thanks again for your help.

Thank you. Could you try to deactivate the Bitly URL Generator from your site, and let me know if it helps?

Sure. That looks like it did the trick. Thanks!
