Jetpack ads
-
I don’t understand the logic of Jetpack ads. The way ad networks make money off publishers is that they retain a percent of the ad revenue. Typically 20% to 40% of ad revenue is retained by the ad network / agent.
We run a site: bajanthings.com that is focused on: Bajan history. Interesting Bajan people. Hiking in Barbados and Overseas. Bajan Travel…. We have an audience of 5 to 10k visitors per month with a subscriber list of about 1.5k.
We use ads on the site. These do not cover our total cost but do make a contribution to the running cost of our site. This is a hobby site like many WordPress sites. Ads are primarily provided by Google AdSense and Media.net.
I’ve been getting Jetpack promotion messages to consider: Jetpack Ads. I’ve read the FAQs. It all looks very promising. What I like is that as a specific WordPress sub-group there is potential for higher overall CPM rate.
I’d consider Jetpack Ads tomorrow – but the economics just don’t make sense.
It looks as if to sign up for Jetpack ads I need to purchase a premium service. Looks like the cheapest one is the search tool at US$4.00 per month. Having done that I would then get access to Jetpack Ads.
We earn about US$4.00 a month from Google AdSense – so I cannot see the point of trialling Jetpack Ads. Given Automatic would retain a portion of the ad revenue as the ad network / agent to cover costs, this seems like Automatic double dipping.
I’d love to trial Jetpack Ads but to go from some income to no income just does not make sense. Is there any way around this?
