In the past few days, I’ve noticed a slowing down of the Media Library. Then, this morning it would not load at all. It will intermittently work in a post when trying to upload to the media library within the post. But, it only will show those images directly uploaded within that post, none others. However, it will not let me insert any of those images into the blog post.

I talked with my host who thought it was a plugin issue. When I disabled all plugins both issues with the media library disappeared. I finally figured out it was the Jetpack plugin. Now that I’ve turned Jetpack off, it works fine.

One time when I was waiting for a long time for an image to show up after I clicked to insert it, a box partially showed up on right side of the screen for just a moment that said “Fatal Error….” It disappeared quickly, so that was all I was able to see of it. I have not been able to get that box to appear again.

I’ve not uploaded any new plugins recently, so I’m not sure what is wrong. Is there anyway to fix this?

    Thanks!

With the Fatal Error, there should be a note in your site’s error logs. Can you grab those from your host?

When you say not load at all, what is displayed on the screen? I can’t think of anything in Jetpack that is tied into the Media Library in a way that would cause that to fail.

It’s possible if your server is having trouble with memory exhaustion, disabling Jetpack freed up enough memory for everything to work.

Lastly, could you post your site URL here, so I can have a look?

If I clicked on Add Media, it is just a blank white box where the photos should be and the little circle would just spin and spin and never load. Sometimes, a few of the photos would show up, and if I checked one to insert into the blog post, it would never show up.

About 1 1/2 weeks ago I received an email that my MySQL database was being moved by my host while they upgraded the MySQL version to 5.6. Could this be a potential cause of the problem?

    This is my site: https://thetiptoefairy.com/

    Thank you for your help!

I’m not sure if this is related to your current issue, but it looks like the connection to WordPress.com from your Jetpack site is broken too.

Could you disconnect and reconnect to WordPress.com using the link in the footer of the Jetpack page in your site’s Dashboard?

When you see the spinner never load, could you check for any JavaScript errors? We have a guide on how to do that at https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/advanced-browser-troubleshooting/#javascript-errors and let me know what’s there?

    Thanks!

Thank you Brandon for helping me! When I opened the developer tools, it showed me the Fatal Error and it was about memory exhaust, so I went to my host, told them about it, they fixed it. Now everything seems to be working fine with Jetpack activated again.
