• I am having very strange problems with the jetpack carousel.

Let me start by saying I am on a 2012 child with very few plugins, none of which address images: Revision Control, Jetpack, Google Analytics for WordPress, Fast Secure Contact Form, Column-Matic. That’s it.

What is happening / not happening:

If I set my gallery to display “thumbnail grid” and I have a hyperlink inside the description, the thumbnail will not load. The carousel works, but clicking on the empty area where the thumbnail should be (it’s a blank-placeholder) brings up the first image in the gallery when launching the carousel.
    example: richardsauve.me/images-not-loading-correctly/

I would like to add links to my work in that description field. So, for now, I have to set it on Tiled Mosaic. Actually, all of the others, except ‘thumbnail grid’ can load the thumbnails, however ‘circles’ and ‘square tiles’ do not allow for all images being the same size, and in particular, only one is large, which is weird.

    Now, another issue:
If I set the ‘link to’ to Attachment page while on ‘thumbnail grid’ or circles/squares, all is the same as with ‘media file.’ However, if I link to the attachment page while selecting the Mosaic Tiles, my thumbs are mostly broken. Now, I assume that the gallery is over-riding truly linking to the media file or the attachment page, as it is loading a carousel gallery instead, so to be honest, I don’t even know why this option is there. Regardless, here is the
    example: richardsauve.me/images-not-loading-correctly-02/

Honestly, what I would like, is the ability to chose thumbnail grid, then choose square or round thumbnails, and what size to display the thumbnail (thumbs are too small, and medium is too big).

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

The carousel works, but clicking on the empty area where the thumbnail should be (it’s a blank-placeholder) brings up the first image in the gallery when launching the carousel.

Could you let me know how you created these placeholders?

I would like to add links to my work in that description field. So, for now, I have to set it on Tiled Mosaic.

Could you also point me to one of the images where you added a link in the image description?

however ‘circles’ and ‘square tiles’ do not allow for all images being the same size, and in particular, only one is large, which is weird.

This will depend on the number of images you add to your gallery, as well as the number of columns in your gallery. Jetpack automatically builds a gallery and will make one image larger than the others if necessary, to avoid having one single image and a blank space on the last gallery row.

If I set the ‘link to’ to Attachment page while on ‘thumbnail grid’ or circles/squares, all is the same as with ‘media file.’

Since the carousel module is active on your site, clicking on an image will indeed always open the Carousel view, regardless of the link option you chose.

However, if I link to the attachment page while selecting the Mosaic Tiles, my thumbs are mostly broken. Regardless, here is the example: richardsauve.me/images-not-loading-correctly-02/

All images seem to be properly displayed on my end. Could you post a screenshot of how this page looks like to you, so I can better understand the issue? You can use a service like https://snag.gy/ to post your pictures here.

Honestly, what I would like, is the ability to chose thumbnail grid, then choose square or round thumbnails, and what size to display the thumbnail (thumbs are too small, and medium is too big).

I’m afraid Jetpack doesn’t allow for such control over the size of the thumbnails. Image sizes are automatically defined based on numerous factors (size of the original image, number of images in the gallery, orientation of these images, width of the content area in your theme, size of the browser…).

If you want to create custom galleries with a very specific size for each thumbnail, I would recommend that you create a new image size under Settings > Media in your dashboard, and create new thumbnail grid galleries using this size.
