This is a problem I mentioned months ago (see https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/wordpress-site-continued-access-to-jetpack-management/ ). Since, Jetpack made some changes that appears to have resolved the issue which was to fix the connection between the WordPress site and the connected WordPress account, which included a visible JetPack module (connection settings) that shows which WordPress account it was connected to (nice work on that one).

Alas, there still is an issue, hopefully not as involved as the first time.

I was logged into a clients website on Tab #1 and that included the Jetpack connected to that WordPress account.

IN a new tab (#2), same browser, I logged into another WordPress site (my own), which was suppose to be connected to the correct WordPress account there, so it appeared by the Jetpack connection setting module.

But… while in Tab #2, WordPress Website Admin – JetPack Dashboard, I clicked the Stats button to view more stats in that WordPress account. Jetpack took me to the wrong account. It went into the account that belonged to the website in Tab #1, where I was still logged into.

I logged out of the WordPress account that belonged to the website in Tab #1, and retried to access the WordPress account that belonged to the Website in Tab #2. I had to log back into that correct account to view it.

Did this actually disconnect Jetpack for the website opened in Tab #2? – I do not know and did not show disconnected.

Concern/Issue
This presents a concern, which I do not know how to test. The concern is, “Did this cause the website in Tab #2 to connect it’s JetPack plugin to the incorrect account, even though it still showed as a correct connection in the visible “connection setting” module?

The basis of this problem stems from being logged into more than one website in the same browser where each website has different WordPress Accounts. Of course, for websites that use the same WordPress account, there is no issue.

Some Limited Testing
I did some testing on this.
Test-1
Website #1 – Logged in / clicked Stats button (Jetpack dashboard) to access WordPress account.
Website #1 – logged out
Result – took me to a WordPress login page (I did not log in here)

Website #2 – Logged in (after logged out of #1), did the same thing.
Result – same result
Website #2 – logged out.

This is Ok, since it shows that as long as I log out of each WordPress account, it will not instantly connect to the wrong account when trying to manually access it via Jetpack,

but… this does not confirm if the WordPress Jetpack plugin is connected to the correct site other than what it shows in the “connection settings” module.

I am going to assume it does, since it shows the gravatar for that account, but this only proves correct if the gravatar can “only” be accessed via the correct WordPress account. If this gravatar is pulled from a cache, then it does not confirm it. Of course, this I do not know and the Jetpack people need to confirm this.

Test-2
(Same browser used.)
Website #1 – Logged in / Logged into WordPress account #1 belonging to to website #1.
Website #1 = logged out / Still Logged in to WordPress Account #1 – closed tab.
(I did not log out of the WordPress.com account #1, I simply closed the tab where that was opened.)

Website #2 – Logged in / Accessed WordPress.com Account via Jetpack.
Result – It took me to the WordPress account that belonged to Website #1, the incorrect WordPress account.

Website #1 – Logged out of WordPress Account.

Website #2 – Still logged in / Clicked button in Jetpack to access WordPress Account.
Result – Took me to a login page for WordPress.com

In all cases, the correct WordPress was showing as connected to Jetpack as per the “connection settings” module.

Test-3
(Same browser used.)
Website #1 – Logged in / Tab #1
Website #2 – Logged in / Tab #2

Website #1 / WordPress Account Accessed via Jetpack > result: WordPress.com Login page.
Website #2 / WordPress Account Accessed via Jetpack > result: WordPress.com Login page.

Conclusion
I have to ensure that I am logged out of the WordPress account to prevent accessing the wrong WordPress account.

Would be nice to be able to log into the correct WordPress account even with different accounts logged into in different tabs in the same browser, but I guess that is likely browser dependent and not WordPress or Jetpack fixable.

Question still remains, is Jetpack still connected to the correct WordPress account despite these overlaps I showed above?
