Using the latest version of Jetpack on multiple Websites, it seems that Jetpack has dropped the link from the main admin dashboard widget that takes you to this page:

    …/wp-admin/admin.php?page=stats

The only link on the widget is now “View All Stats”, which takes you off-site to the WordPress.Com stats report, which we rarely look at. We’re only interested in getting to the on-site reports as quickly as possible.

This is a major annoyance considering we manage over 100+ installations. We don’t want to be logging into and out of WordPress.Com accounts all the time.

Either it’s a bug or someone thought it was a good idea to make it harder to get to the on-site stats report. It’s not a good idea. We’d like to see the link restored. Is this a bug that should be reported?

It’s definitely an intentional change. The stats interface in the Dashboard hasn’t been changed for several years, whereas the stats interface on WordPress.com continues to be improved and already supports several additional features.

That was definitely a suboptimal decision. We do log into WordPress.com occasionally but the reports there are not useful enough to make it worthwhile. We just need access to the basic data most of the time.

What will it take to get this reversed?

For now, my recommendation is to go directly to Jetpack > Site Stats in your Dashboard if you want just a little bit more data than the widget provides. It’s still just one link away, but it’s in the Dashboard’s sidebar to the left rather than the widget.

Overall though, future enhancements and improvements will continue to be made to the stats interface at WordPress.com only.

That’s the obvious part. You should try managing 100+ Websites like this. Every extra action whether it be to hover the pointer over the admin menu bar or scroll down to click on a sub-menu item or to wait for AJAX to finish loading a page that could be populated via text-based HTML in half the time, it all adds up to time wasted throughout the day.

THAT is why it’s such an annoying change. Most people won’t care. The people who care are the ones who work on a lot of sites throughout the day.

Pushing everyone to WordPress.Com devalues the tool in subtler ways, but I’m less likely to recommend Jetpack to people who just want to see the data in their dashboards.
