When I create a post, I notice that it says I need to reconnect to my Twitter account before publishing. So, I click on Settings, and it takes me to the Jetpack settings, where I see a notice saying that I’m not linked to a wordpress.com account. I click the Link Account button, and it takes me to WordPress.com, where it shows that my site is connected. If I click the Return to my site button, it takes me to the page where I can select my plan.

Is the unlinking a known issue, or is there something that I need to do on my end to prevent it from happening again?

This happens every time I log into my website. The site URL is https://patscomputerservices.com and is hosted on HostGator.

  • Jetpack shouldn’t be disconnected each time you log out of your site and not a known issue.

As a first step of troubleshooting can you please upgrade your PHP to 5.6 or above? www.ads-software.com recommends actually recommends version 7 as the minimum however 5.6 is still most commonly used.

    Hi there,
I just saw this, and went to my hosting provider and upgraded to 5.6 (using the PHP Configuration in cPanel). I’m still seeing the same issue. I click on “Link to wordpress.com” and it shows that it’s connected. If I click the “Return to Pats Computer Services” link, it takes me back to the Jetpack page in my wp-admin and it shows “You are not connected to WordPress.com. Link to WordPress.com”. Also if I go into my wordpress.com site, it shows my website as “My Site”.

I’ve even tried logging out and logging back in. When I go to any of the sub-pages for Jetpack, it says the same thing. I do have an option of “PHP Edge” in my PHP Configurator. Supposedly it uses the latest version that Hostgator has in their system, which might be 5.7 (it shows PHP 7.0 as a version number presumably to allow it to keep working up through that version). Would that be an option to try?

    Thanks for your help.:)
    Patrick.

    Hi Patrick,

Let’s try sticking with PHP version 5.6 for now. Can you install and activate this plugin via Plugins > Add New > Upload in your site’s Dashboard (don’t expand the .zip file before uploading), then try to connect? You can download the plugin from here:

    https://github.com/Automattic/jetpack-addons/archive/add/old-connection-flow.zip

Once connected, you can delete this plugin. It will redirect you to an older method of connection which I think will bypass what is going wrong here.

Please let us know if that works.

    Hi there,

That worked like a charm. One question is this: When I connected before doing this if I clicked on the “Return to site” button, it would take me to the page where I should select a plan. If I chose the free plan, nothing happened (and I would still see that it wasn’t connected). However below that button was a link that said “Return to Pats Computer Services”. Clicking that link would take me right back to my site, but I wouldn’t be connected.

Also, now that it’s fixed, will this break when there’s another update, or will I continue to use the old method of connection?

    Thanks again. ??
    Patrick.

The problem was that the authorization is finishing on our side, but your site is not accepting the final communication to finish it up – that’s why whenever you returned back to your site it was showing as disconnected.

You shouldn’t need to keep the plugin installed, as Jetpack’s connection should *knock on wood* stay connected even after upgrades, if a site was to disconnect it would be due to some other issue.
