• Hello,

This is apparently a very common issue and there is so much information on it that I haven’t been able to find an exact solution for my site. I am having difficulty with getting the featured image to display on the Facebook post generated by Publicize. This used to work 100% of the time but as of my last few blog posts it isn’t working. I have deleted the posts off Facebook that didn’t include the image but I can generate a fake post for you to troubleshoot if necessary.

    Thank you in advance.

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

When you share a post on Facebook, or when Jetpack Publicize publishes a post to your Facebook page, Facebook crawls the page and looks for Open Graph meta tags in the head to build a complete post preview (with an image, title, description, …).

Jetpack automatically creates these Open Graph Meta tags for you unless you already use another Open Graph plugin, in which case we let the other plugin handle things. Looking at your site, you seem to be using the WordPress SEO plugin to manage Open Graph Meta tags.

These tags seem correct, WordPress SEO does its job properly. I tried sharing your most recent post, and the image seems to be there:
    https://i.wpne.ws/aO3y

Facebook’s debugger also doesn’t show any errors for that post:
    https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/og/object?q=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.decnets.com%2Fchronus-construction-inc-website-complete%2F

Could you point me to one of the posts where you experienced the issue, so I can investigate more?

    Thanks!

That post is the one I had an issue with, Jeremy. (https://www.decnets.com/chronus-construction-inc-website-complete/).

When Publicize posted it to Facebook no image was shown. I deleted that post and created my own post by simply sharing the URL (as you screenshot) and it worked just fine.

Why is it not working from Publicize?
    Thanks in advance.

    Best,
    Trent

I’m not sure. Do you experience similar issues with other posts? Could you try publishing a new post, and let me know if the problems still exists?

I have tried publishing a new post and it had the same error where the image did not appear on Facebook. I deleted it from both the site and the Facebook page.

Would creating another one help you in any way or can you work with the one that is currently on the site?

I don’t remember this ever being a problem before and I don’t think I have changed anything. We do use WordPress SEO (by Yoast). But, like I said, it has not caused an issue before.

    Hi Jeremy,

I am having this same issue for the second time. The first time I solved putting this code to my functions.php add_filter( 'jetpack_enable_opengraph', '__return_false', 99 ); and I had to disabled my all in one seo social meta and I added the Facebook open graph code direct on my functions. This solved my problems.

Now that the plugin was updated to 3.4.1 I’m having the same problem again… I tried to delete this code from my functions but Facebook still can’t crawl my url. I’m using All in One SEO but my social meta is disabled, so I am sure that I only have one meta og: for each thing.

The url that I am trying is https://jademeneguel.com/2015/bid-for-a-better-future-purpleday-by-stylight/ the old urls are good but if I try to scrape new information on Facebook Debugger I receive the same error message as this url I wrote.

    Please, help. Thank you!

I have tried publishing a new post and it had the same error where the image did not appear on Facebook. I deleted it from both the site and the Facebook page.

I assume that’s the post in question?
    https://www.decnets.com/mars-motorsports-website-build/

When I enter that post URL in Facebook Debugger, I get the following error:

Error parsing input URL, no data was cached, or no data was scraped.

    https://i.wpne.ws/aPmW

However when I ask Facebook to try to crawl the post once again, it finds all the necessary information to build a good post preview:
    https://i.wpne.ws/aQep

Something seems to be blocking Facebook from properly crawling your posts right after they’ve been published.

Next time you publish a post, could you enter the URL in Facebook Debugger and see if the same error appears?

@jademeneguel Could you please start your own thread, as per the Forum Welcome?

    Thank you!

    sry guys! I started a new one… ??

    Jeremy,

Please see my latest post https://www.decnets.com/ion-led-rgb-systems/ – When Publicize posted the article it didn’t have the image. So once again, I had to delete it and repost it manually.

However, if you use the Facebook scraper, it says there is nothing wrong. What is going on here? What do I need to do to fix this?

    Best,
    Trent

I see this error when checking the post in the debugger:
    https://i.wpne.ws/aUV2

I don’t really understand why that’s happening, though: the image is there, it’s added to your tags by the WordPress SEO plugin, and it’s big enough.

At this point, I’d suggest opening a bug with Facebook, and let them know about the issue. They might be able to tell you more:

Sorry not to be able to tell you more.
