    Hi,

I have been trying to resolve this problem on one my sites the entire day and need help please.

When I enable Jetpack, there’s a fatal error on the site’s homepage, I cannot access WordPress dashboard, and the log is full these kind of errors:

[26-Aug-2020 15:22:28 UTC] PHP Warning: require_once(/public_html/wp-content/plugins/jetpack/class.jetpack.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /public_html/wp-content/plugins/jetpack/load-jetpack.php on line 41

    [26-Aug-2020 15:22:28 UTC] PHP Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required ‘/public_html/wp-content/plugins/jetpack/class.jetpack.php’ (include_path=’.:/opt/cpanel/ea-php74/root/usr/share/pear’) in /public_html/wp-content/plugins/jetpack/load-jetpack.php on line 41

I looked up a previous thread and followed your suggestion to manually install Jetpack. The problem persists – the site works without Jetpack but crashes with a fatal error, say after a few minutes of enabling it.

Next, I spoke with Bluehost. They tried to help by changing the PHP version, saving permalinks, etc. but no joy. Now, they have advised to seek your support. Please help.

      WooCommerce Version 4.4.1
      Theme – Astra Version 2.5.4
Page Designer – Elementor Version 3.0.1
      Jetpack Version – 8.8.2
      Wordfence Version 7.4.10
      Dev Server: 256 MB memory

PS: If needed, I can share the site URL (under development) via email.

    Kind regards,

  • I did an Updraft restore and brought my site back up. Things were working for an hour or so and I just reloaded the site and now getting the same fatal error.

    Please help!

I have the same issue on many of my sites right now. I narrowed it down to the class.jetpack.php file is being deleted somehow.

I FTP’d a new version of the file and within 15 minutes it gets deleted and the site goes back down.

Multiple people are experiencing issues. Are you on BlueHost or HostGator by chance @backpackingseries ?

If so you might want to follow the thread I started yesterday

I operate a large number of websites hosted on multiple bluehost accounts. The issue is showing up on two different bluehost shared accounts but is not showing up on my other 10 bluehost accounts. Could this in anyway be related to the new wp plugin autoupdate process?

Thank you for the link @peppermintmochapatty and @darnelldibbles, I’ll follow the main thread for updates.

@peppermintmochapatty Yes, the site in question is on Bluehost. However, just like @bizdevweb, not all my sites on Bluehost are affected. It looks like only those bought on cyber monday are.

I’m going to mark this thread as resolved, in favor of the main thread linked above. We’ll add any updates there.

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

    I have good news!

Bluehost found out which of their internal scans was removing the file, and fixed it. The problem should now be solved.

You should be able to re-install Jetpack now, the file should not get removed again.

Note: If you had only deactivated Jetpack via WordPress’ recovery mode, you’ll want to delete the plugin, and then re-install it from scratch.

If any of you still experience issues with a fresh installation of Jetpack, let us know!

@jeherve Thank you so much for relentlessly pursuing this. Will try it in the morning and update here only if I need further support.

    Kind regards,
