Jetpack has become VERY expensive and fragmented.
-
Unfortunately, JetPack has become an EXPENSIVE plugin to maintain. 3 years ago, I used VaultPress for Backups. I stopped using it because the price had gone up, and if I wanted more than 10GB of storage, I would have to pay more. As a result, I canceled VaultPress and signed up with a competitor that offered more features and unlimited storage at a more affordable cost.
You are increasingly fragmenting the plugin, charging for each feature individually. The most recent of these was Stats. And don’t say that stats are still free because even the conditions imposed for this are unfair. I also need to point out that not all working people who monetize blogs with adsense or other solutions make a lot of money. There are people who earn very little. And even then, they won’t be able to continue using stats because the price is high and does not match their own financial realities, and the financial reality of the country.
Here in Brazil, you are charging R$34.95 (7 dollars) per month for JetPack Stats, which would be R$419.40 (80 dollars) per year. And if I pay once for 2 years, I get a promotional value that would be 671.04 (129 dollars). I would pay if the values were really like that, however, as my website receives just over 300,000 page views per month, the price you charge increases, and from R$34.95 (7 dollars) per month, the value increases to R$174.95 (33 dollars) per month, which would be 396 dollars per year.
Not even in my dreams i will pay almost 400 dollars a year to be able to use a stats feature that is not as complete as other famous dedicated stats plugins. For dedicated stats plugins, I only pay 99 dollars per year, and they don’t charge me additional amounts if my website visits increase. For $400, I can pay for a great security plugin, a great SEO Pro plugin, and more.
If the prices were lower, as I mentioned, and you didn’t charge more for visits, I wouldn’t think twice about continuing with JetPack, but as unfortunately this is not the case, I won’t be able to continue with this plugin that I like so much, and I will migrate to another service.
Right now, I’m wondering what the next remaining free feature will be that you guys will start charging for.
