Hello, as many before I have found that my site is using a lot of CPU usage on my site. A lot of posts are old and I couldn’t find any answer, I contacted WordPress but haven’t gotten an answer so I decided to post it here maybe I am not the only one dealing with this issue.

Recently my site was attacked and I blocked and disabled the XMLRPC.php, wp-cron.php and enhaced security to the wp-admin.php. I didn’t know but its the standard, I also blocked to top 10 IPs accessing the site and this files using Cloudflare and was able to lower my CPU usage considerably since it is stopped before reaching the site.

While it is lower its not low enough, I came to the conclusion that Jetpack is causing the usage, I only have the JSON API module active because my mobile app uses this to load content, I don’t run a high traffic website and I have read all the logs and there is nothing out of place because usage is also high in odd hours off the day like 2am and it doesn’t match my website stats. This is just a new issue since I have had the app for at least a couple of years with the same amount of traffic using Jetpack and it is just now that this problem came up.

I ran an strace and the results came like this

          2 classic-editor-es_ES
          2 popup-maker-es_ES
          4 99robots-header-footer-code-manager-es_ES
          9 advanced-excerpt-es_ES
          9 disable-comments-es_ES
         12 index
         16 jetpack-es_ES
         16 sem-author-image-es_ES
         32 popup-maker
         70 classic-editor
         70 disable-xml-rpc
         70 missed-schedule-post-publisher
         70 tynt-insight-for-wordpress
         82 disable-comments
         91 cloudflare-flexible-ssl
         94 sem-author-image
        108 advanced-excerpt
        151 header-footer-code-manager
       5943 jetpack

I don’t know if something was changed in the latest versions of the app that is causing this, I run my website on Media Temple and for years never had an issue.

I’d appreciate if someone ran into an issue like this and was able to solve it? if I deactivate Jetpack is obvious how the usage goes down. I tried to use the WP REST API but that generates more usage on my CPU. I tried to think and search for all possible solutions but still have no idea what to do.

    Thanks in advance.
