    Hello,

For a few months now I have images on my website that keep breaking. They do fine at the backend and replacing them works as not all images are broken, however as I reuse many images it’s really a pain in the ass to replace them.

Someone was so kind to point out that Jetpack is causing the problem. I temporarily disabled Jetpack and it indeed resolves it. But as I’d like to keep using Jetpack, shutting it down isn’t a solution for me. I am hoping that you could tell me what’s going on and how to solve the problem so my website works optimally again.

    Thank you!

    Hi @tezartdesign

Thanks for contacting us about this. I took a look for you and your Jetpack connection looks great.

On the page you linked, all the images loaded correctly for me – can you point us directly to some images which are not working correctly?

A screenshot or two may be helpful if you’re able to send those.

Here are some tips on creating a screenshot to send to us:

    Hello Bruce,

thank you for your reply! I hope this helps:

    Imgur screenshot of missing image.

This is the link it redirects to: https://i0.wp.com/www.lifetolegend.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/Scaly-Howler-final-light-background-RGB-WEB.jpg?w=1000&ssl=1

And this is what Threadi told me:

On your linked page, I don’t see 2 pictures right now. These are delivered via Jetpack and generate a HTTP status 400, so it seems to be a Jetpack issue. My recommendation would be to deactivate the plugin and see if it works better.

If yes, then you should contact their support with the problem: https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/jetpack/

Here is another page where an image doesn’t work. In this case it’s the large first image at the very top of the article. The thumbnail of it doesn’t work either: https://www.lifetolegend.com/art-articles/gathering-resources-for-your-creature-designs/

    Thank you!

    Hi @tezartdesign

Thanks for providing those. What’s odd is that the image shows fine on my end:

    View post on imgur.com

What browser are you using? I tried in Firefox and Safari and it loaded fine in both. I also checked the response of the image from the command line and the response was correct there as well.

I cleared our cache for that image as well just to see if that might help things.

    Thank you dor the reply,

I normally use Microsoft Edge, but I tested it on Firefox and it doesn’t show there either. On firefox though it just shows as a box without any images in it where Edge shows it as a broken image (thumbnail).

I’m not sure what’s going on tbh, and didn’t find a way yet to resolve it. Would it be helpful if you could log in?

The problem is still occurring… Is there something else I can do?

    Hi @tezartdesign

Sorry for losing track of this thread.

I just looked at this and I’m unfortunately unable to reproduce the issue. At present, images are loading for me.

One thing I wondered about is that images are being called from a *.shortpixel.ai address on your site before they are sent over to our Site Accelerator CDN. I am wondering if perhaps that server is sometimes blocking our requests, which may in turn cause our image CDN to return a broken image. However, since I can’t replicate it, that is speculation.

What I would suggest doing is turning off the Site Accelerator feature in Jetpack. You can do that by going to:

    – Jetpack → Settings → Performance.
    – In the Performance & speed section, toggle off “Enable site accelerator.”

This will server images directly from your server without involving Jetpack and you can continue use other Jetpack functionality. I’d give that a try and see if it fixes the issue. If it doesn’t, there is something else happening with your images (perhaps with the shortpixel.ai service) and you will need to investigate that separately.

Let us know what you find out.

Thank you for your reply! I use several optimizing programs so yea, there might be some overlap here and there. But I don’t use anything called Shortpixel, I wonder which app could be messing around because I rather uninstall that one than not use Jetpack.

    They are:
    – Autoptimize
    – Converter for Media
    – Smush
    – WP-Optimize

I did however disable and test all of them but it didn’t resolve the problem.

Your suggestion however did work, so thank you for that! I hope it won’t affect the speed of my website any further because it already is very sad and not something I can solve myself other than with the help of functions like this one.

If you have any thoughts of what’s going on regarding this error and/or page speed I’d love to know. Ive been battling the page speed for almost a year now and nothing seems to work.

    Thank you and take care!

The calls to the Shortpixel CDN are likely due to “image optimization” being active in Autoptimize, disable that option if you don’t want your images to be optimized by the Shortpixel CDN.

    hope this helps,
