    Jetpack Mechanic ??

The button appears to work on my end; I was able to Like your portfolio project a few minutes ago. Have you managed to solve the issue by yourself?

Hey Jeremy! Thanks for the LIKE! It’s all about numbers for me, so going from 0 to 1 is HUGE! ??

Joking aside, I haven’t done anything to fix it. On the page you liked, I can see it registered. But on another page with no likes, I still see the loading… text.

Could it be my browser? I typically use Chrome, but Firefox wouldn’t see it either.

What other details can I provide to give you a clearer picture of what’s going on?

Can you please try disabling all of your plugins except Jetpack and then seeing if the LIke button loads on all of your Portfolio items?

If so, turn your plugins on again, one by one, checking your Portfolio items after each one. When it stops loading, you’ll know which plugin is causing the issue.

If that doesn’t work, try switching themes to one of the newer defaults (e.g. Twenty Fifteen or Twenty Fourteen). Does that allow the like buttons to load again?

    Let me know, thanks!

    Hey Adam,

Thanks for looking into this with me.

I deactivated all of the plugins that I had running, checked the page, and still just a “Loading…” text.

I’m going to turn the plugins back on.

If you can see the button on your page, could it be my browser?

Could you go to the Jetpack menu in your dashboard, scroll down to the bottom of the page, click on Debug, and then click on the Reindex button at the bottom of the following page?

Let us know if you continue to experience issues once your posts and portfolio projects are all reindexed.

    Good evening Jeremy,

I reindexed the site as you requested. I doesn’t appear to have helped, and may have made the problem worse.

The page that you originally liked, now shows the same “Loading…” text as the others. My site is now actually LESS LIKED than before! ??

Kidding aside, does this information help you troubleshoot the problem?

Also, as of 10:41pm on Feb. 10th, the support request shows RESOLVED. Should it be re-opened to help attract other potential contributors?

Could you try to enable the JSON API module, and let me know if it helps?

P.S.: You can change the status of your thread thanks to the dropdown in the right sidebar here ->

Thanks Jeremy for pointing out the “resolved/unresolved” status changer.

I activated the JSON API module, and updated Jetpack to 3.3.1, but “Loading…” still shows. Guess I can’t leave this request as “resolved” ??

Should I have reindexed it again after activating the module?

Would you mind switching to one of the default themes for a few minutes, and let me know how it goes? I want to make sure the problem is not linked to a conflict between your theme and Jetpack.

    Thanks!

Little bit of nervousness with that request.

If I switch back, will it have all of my previous settings saved? Will I need to download everything, and then upload it once I switch back?

Forgive my questions, but I’m just interested in how all of the themes interact with the sites’ content when you switch things around.

That depends on your theme, so I can’t really tell. If your theme includes several options under Appearance > Theme Options or in its own menu, you might lose these options when switching themes.

If your theme uses WordPress’ built-in customizer, all you’ll need to do is check Appearance > Widgets and drag any widgets that may have been dragged to the “Inactive Widgets” area.

    Hey Jeremy,

Well I waited until the weekend to try the switch… yeah, I’m a wimp. ??

When I switched, all of my portfolio pages show up with a 404 link. I tried it on a couple of the default themes and that happened. I even created a direct link to one of the portfolios and pasted it right onto a page – still came up with a 404 error. I switch back to my theme and the portfolios are running smoothly.

Could that have something to do with this LIKE problem? That the way the portfolios are set up is incorrect? Or that I need to do something with those custom page types I’ve read about?

The LIKE button might not be working still, but I feel like this gives us a really good clue.

After switching, you’ll need to go to Settings > Writing and make sure the Portfolio option is enabled.

Let me know how that goes.
