I just wanted to report that the Jetpack Monitor functionality seems to be flawed.

I have received roughly 150 email notices from Jetpack monitor in the last 3 days for three of my sites that have Jetpack installed. I have also checked with my host and verified through their logs that my server has not had any downtime in the last 3 days.

They thought that it could possibly be the request from Jetpack to the servers timing out, as their servers (and many others) will often deny/prioritize ping requests to prioritize traffic to legitimate http requests.

I am not sure if this happens for many users of the Jetpack plugin, but if so, maybe increasing the time limit before the Jetpack determines it a time-out could solve the issue.

    Thanks,

    Ronald Fuquay

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

There are a few reasons that could explain why Jetpack considered your sites down while they was in fact accessible when you visited it. The most likely explanation is that your sites were up, but loaded too slowly, or that your hosting provider blocked our monitoring agent from accessing your sites.

Jetpack tries to access your site every 5 minutes. When Jetpack’s Monitoring agent notices that your site is down (or can’t be loaded in less than 10 seconds), it tries to load your site again twice from that server location. If that fails too, it tries again from 2 other locations on 2 different continents, with timeouts of 20 seconds this time. If these 2 fail, we consider the site as down and send you an email. By that point, I think it’s fair to consider that either there is a problem with your site, or a problem with how your server handles our monitoring agent.

If that’s the latter, I’d recommend sending the following link to your hosting provider:
    https://jetpack.me/support/monitor/#site-down

They might be able to update their server configuration to take Jetpack Monitor into account.

    I hope this helps.
