Jetpack Mosaic captions always show carousel not working

I was dealing with the nextgen cron overload a few days ago, so maybe something happened then, but… I just noticed that

my mosaic galleries captions are always showing- they used to show only upon rollover.

also, the carousel no longer works- when you click on an image, it takes you to a page with the image instead of the lightbox-type flow.
