I’m the last to discover Jetpack because there is no overall clearing house for WordPress to list important or new or big plugins.

I didn’t learn everything yet – there’s so much – but just discovered that it’s doing something bad with my images (cartoons).

I was an early adopter, trying to stop Google from stealing all of my cartoons in their new full-size image search. I set up a watermark php and png in my site, so when someone finds one of my cartoons and clicks on it in Google image search, there is an additional image, call it Watermark, on TOP OF IT, blocking the cartoon, saying to come to my site to view it. You have to add code to your htaccess, too, to make it work correctly. This also stops hotlinking!

Now, I notice that this Watermark image is appearing on all my single posts even on my own site, blocking them. (It does not block images on the home page.) In addition, the alternate caption appears before the image. It all cleared up immediately when I disabled Jetpack.

Is there any way I can still use this great Jetpack plugin without it somehow picking up my png watermark image?

    Thank you.

Since I can’t edit my question above, maybe I can make it more clear. I have my blog set up to stop hotlinking by Google (or anyone.) Google is hotlinking ALL images now for image search. It stops the hotlinking by inserting another image on the search.

However, when I activated the Jetpack plugin, it started to bring that hotlink block image over to my site, covering my own images on my site, and as each page loaded, it also showed the alt tag before the image, which is not usual.

Any idea why this happens, or if I can change something?

    Sensible.

Are you using the Photon module?

    https://jetpack.me/support/photon/

That module makes a copy of your images onto a CDN and that may be triggering that hotlink block image. Try deactivating that module, clearing your browser’s cache and cookies and revisit your site again.

THANK you! I did deactivate that now, and so far all is well.

Too bad, images take the most time to load. But now I can at least try out the other features of Jetpack

    Glad to help. ??

If you can adjust your hotlink protection to include those i[1-4].wp.com as permitted referrers then I think you may get the benefit while stopping everyone else.
