When I activated the JetPack Protect I’m allowed to logout and login once. The second time I logout and login, the login screen includes a math problem with a statement that asks ‘Prove your Humanity.’ When I solve the math problem correctly, I receive the following error: Fatal error: Class ‘Jetpack_Protect_Math_Authenticate’ not found in …/wpcontent/plugins/jetpack/modules/protect.php on line 221. I actually shouldn’t receive the Math Authentication question at all since I listed my IP on the Protect White Page.
I ended up having to disable Jetpack.php so that I could get back into my website.

Anyone know how to fix this?

  • Once the folder was gone I was back to normal.

All I can think is it might be a cache issue. Try ctrl f5 on the login page before you enter the username and password.

I was able to get around this by using my WordPress App on my phone. It allowed me to go into wp-admin and disable Protect.

Something you could try if you have the mobile app installed!

Has the problem with protect been repaired?

    Evidently not, costaricaguide.

I had just logged into my Dashboard on a website with no issues (I had worked on it this morning) to check my Jetpack viewer statistics for the day, and then logged out.

But then I thought that I saw a specific post page in those statistics that looked askew, so I attempted to log back into my Dashboard ─ and got that infernal math question that was not there the first time.

‘0 + 9’ always equals ‘9,’ but that wasn’t good enough, and I got the line of error code.

From then on, I could not access my Dashboard.

Note that I was using Firefox.

I tried Explorer with the same result ─ the enforced math question was imposed that resulted once again in the line of error coding.

Finally ─ not wanting to have to bother with the deep end of deleting Jetpack from my website’s database ─ I used Chrome.

As a browser, I rarely activate it ─ not even once a month. So it sits rather dormant on my computer.

But that proved the ticket to get into my WordPress Dashboard.

I was able to disable ‘Protect’ from the features of Jetpack that I had previously activated.

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

@costaricaguide Not yet, but we’re still working on it. It will be fixed in the next Jetpack release.

@garnethgb If you get the math question, that’s because your IP was flagged as potentially malicious. You can whitelist that IP by following the instructions here:
    https://jetpack.me/support/security-features/#unblock

    Same problems here too !

    Jeremy;

I just wanted to add that I had ‘whitelisted’ my IP at least a week or two prior to the trouble ─ I did so as soon as I noticed that the whitelisting feature was being offered, and my IP was being quoted for my convenience.

    So something is quite bonkers.

Incidentally, I wish I knew what other plugin or feature is jacking my WordPress Dashboard editor field all over the place every few seconds, relocating text or images to the very top or very bottom of the field at the very instant that I’m trying to insert them; or constantly forcing an immediate ‘undo’ of highlighting and other behind-the-scenes editing I might be involved in.

But that’s a whole other story, isn’t it?

Yes, whitelisting your IP does not protect you from getting the Math Question (and the associated errors). I whitelisted my IP on two websites and Protect locked me out of both of them. So, it’s probably best to keep Protect deactivated until the update.

@garnethgb @ricesrey Thank you both for the extra details.

Could you try to make the following changes to the Jetpack plugin on your site, and let me know if it helps?

I’d recommend that you try to deactivate all plugins on your site, one at a time, until you find the source of the problem.

    Hey Jeremy,

The changes didn’t work for me. I didn’t get the error msg this time but it still would not let me log in. This is what happens:

I can log in and log out one time. The next time I log out and try to log in, I get the message: Please solve this math problem to prove that you are not a bot. Once you solve it, you will need to log in again.

    Prove your humanity: 10 + 10 = ?

So, I solve the problem (I believe the answer is 20). When I do, it takes me back to my home screen–but I’m still logged out. So I try to log in again. This time I get a different math question. I solve it and it returns me, again, to my home screen–but I’m still logged out. In short, Protect lets me answer math questions all day, but it won’t let me log in.

BTW, the IP Whitelisting feature still doesn’t work.

    Hope this helps,
    Ric

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

@ricesrey Could you let me know your site URL, so I can check your Jetpack settings?

    Thread Starter ricesrey

    (@ricesrey)

Certainly. My URLs are https://baronair.com and https://air.ink.

I was locked out of two of my sites, both hosted separately. By editing wp-config.php I was able to access one, but not the other. The one I cannot access has a different lockout message: “Your IP (x.x.x.x) has been flagged for potential security violations. Please try again in a little while…”.

    I need to login, thoughts?

Can you get into the database through phpMyAdmin? If you can, find the table that is labled _options (it should say ‘something and end with _options). Under that table is a row with the option_name called active_plugins. It may not be on the first page, so you’ll have to look for it. Once you find the active_plugins, you’ll see the option_value text box with a list of all of your active plugins. I select all (ctrl-a) and cut (ctrl-x) all of the active plugins from this text box. Then save. This doesn’t delete your plugins. It just deactivates them all.

After this, you should be able to log in–it’s always worked for me. Once I’m in, I paste (ctrl-v) the active plugins back into the active_plugins row of the _options table and hit ‘save.’ That way, my plugins are back to where they started–with the difference being that now I’m logged in and can make needed changes.

I hope this helps but you may not want to do this if you’re uncomfortable editing your database.

I happened to have a wordpress.com account too, so I was able to hop in there, disconnect Jetpack, log out and then start over back at my site in both cases. In my case all is working well at https://www.MomOnASpiritualJourney.com even with Protect switched on (WP 4.1.1 and The Gossip Theme). I did whitelist my ip address.

At https://www.newworldenergetics.com, this did not work despite white listing my ip address and I got the dreaded line of code Fatal error: Class ‘Jetpack_Protect_Math_Authenticate’ not found in …/wpcontent/plugins/jetpack/modules/protect.php on line 221 as discussed.

Just mentioning this…since I use Customizr at the New World Energetics site. The plugins I use are not the same. Just wondering if some themes may be an issue.
