I wasn’t able to reproduce this issue. Do you still have the Image Optimization enabled?

Note that some issues that you encounter with your WordPress.com blog or account can be solved by changing your browser settings, refreshing the page, or clearing the browser cache and cookies.

after a few reboots and about toggling this setting, the problem went away, thanks.
