    Hi,

I’ve been using the free version of Jetpack stats for years and it now says I have a commercial site due to business contact details when connecting to Jetpack after troubleshooting an issue on my site. Can this please be elaborated? I’m a book blogger sharing my thoughts about the books I read.

I don’t display ads on my website. However, I do offer a free service (you’ll notice a collaborations page) in which I accept books for review and partake in book tours, but I don’t have any monetary gain from this outside of a copy of the book for review purposes. I don’t offer any other services and don’t own a business, so I don’t have a business to promote. One could say those review copies are a business, but again, I’m not receiving any financial gain doing so. I’ve received offers for actual sponsorship (for money), but all of those haven’t fit my site and as such, I’ve declined those offers. Perhaps one day the site will be popular enough that I could be commercial, but for now this is just a hobby and I don’t intend to earn money from reviewing books even if I accept free copies for review.

I use stats to compile my stats transparency post for the book blogging community annually using Jetpack stats as the majority of community relies on the plugin, so it’s easier to compile stats from here rather than using Google Analytics. However, I will be considering other alternatives in the meantime. It seems like there are a lot of posts regarding this, and I feel what’s categorized as a commercial definition should be reevaluated as other sites begin categorizing as commercial after a certain threshold gained, usually beginning at $10k (which as much as it would be nice to have one day, definitely isn’t happening right now lol).
