I expect stats to drop a bit during the christmas/new year week and I don’t get a huge amount of traffic, but my Jetpack stats dropped off precipitously on December 10th. Traffic is about 10% of what it was for the preceding month, and less than 10% of the previous few years. And, it’s all very suddenly.

Google analytics does show a more expected level of traffic, so it seems like it’s got to be the plugin or the theme (Atahualpa)… both of which were updated on the 9th…

    Thanks!

  • I can confirm this problem. Since the 9th december there is a HUGE difference in stats between WordPress stats en my Analytics stats. I notice a difference between 40% en 50%.

There is something going wrong with the WP stats…

@igarrett I had a look at your site, and the stats tracking code is there on your home page, on your posts, on your pages, and on archive pages. Everything seems to be working properly. My test visits were all tracked properly.

It’s worth noting that logged in visitors are not recorded by default, and that might explain the differences between Jetpack Stats and Google Analytics. You can change that behaviour by clicking on “Configure” under the Stats module in your dashboard.

@boxerke The Stats tracking code also appears on your site, but you’re using a plugin named Quick Cache that may cache some of your visits, when the stats tracking code is not added to the page. I’m not familiar with this plugin, but if you can’t exclude logged in visits from being cached I would suggest that you switch to another caching plugin like WP Super Cache or W3 Total Cache.

    I hope this helps.

    Hi Jeremy,

We just implemented a new theme and that seems to have solved it for us. I don’t know if it had to do with the theme itself (Atahualpa) which is database driven. I know we moved away from it because it would tax our server a bit with a lot of DB calls. Though, while we were on that theme, we had W3 Total Cache implemented for a while so that wouldn’t have solved it, since it was already there (it isn’t on our new theme because we moved the hosting to Dreampress and were advised that caching plug-ins can conflict with their caching on a WordPress specific VPS… true?)

We had admins set to not track on both WordPress and Google Analytics, but the difference in numbers (Google: 150 vs WP Jetpack: 5) would have to be a different issues than just logging the 5 admins that have access to the site. I really do mean that it was a precipitous drop off where Jetpack shoved 90&+ less traffic than Google.

Anyway… it’s resolved with the new theme, so we may never know. But the rest of that info might be helpful to someone else to know that it was apparently a conflict with our DB driven theme.

@herve: You wrote ” You can change that behaviour by clicking on “Configure” under the Stats module in your dashboard.”

I can’t find a Stats module to configure on my dashboard.

Is it under Jetpack or the WordPress dashboard?

The Jetpack menu interface has changed a bit since my last post on the thread. You can now find the configure link under Jetpack > Settings in your dashboard:
