Jigoshop – Checkout Fields Manager – select field

I’ve set up a select field using the Checkout Fields Manager plugin and I would like to make it a required field. However it doesn’t seem to be possible to set the field to be empty by default.

Entering values in the Placeholder field such as:
Item1|Item2

Means the first Item1 entry is shown by default – this makes it impossible to force the user to select on of the items.

I tried adding a pipe | character before Item1 but that just shows the number 0 as the first item.

Also, as a side note the fields on the page do not fit in the width of the admin making it impossible to click the remove field button and half the Save button is off the right edge of the browser (no matter how wide I make the page).
