  • In your Child Theme or CSS Editor Plugin try this code:

    .headermenu {
        background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% #222;
    }

    Just edit the #222 color.

    If your theme has a custom CSS Editor in it, you can also paste the code in there.

    Thanks, but that didn’t work. Perhaps I am putting it in the wrong place. That eliminated the background picture and also the background color turned to the default grey. The black band did disappear, but so did the search icon and function. I decided the client will just have to put up with the black band, unless another solution can be found.

    Where did you post the code?

    Not sure. The Editor has the various components in separate files or chunks, rather than all in one scrollable editing window. I tried various places. I couldn’t find the headermenu block, so I tried here and there. When where I placed it finally had some effect (although not the effect I wanted!) I removed the code snippet but that didn’t restore the background photo or color, so I uninstalled and re-installed the theme to get back to what I had.

    You need to use a Child Theme or CSS Editor Plugin

    Don’t edit any core files under the editor section.
