Yes, there is no combine blocks option because that doesn’t really make sense except when it is done contextually.
Let’s say I had two paragraph blocks. Then the natural way to combine them is as I stated before, just backspace one into the other to make them a single paragraph.
But if I somehow “selected” both of the blocks, then had something like a menu option or button or whatever to combine them, then what would I expect the result to be? A paragraph block contains a single paragraph, not two. So if the expected result would the the same backspace outcome, then the more natural way would be better. An option or button or something would produce the same result, but may not be what is expected in such a case.
And for nearly all pairs of blocks you can think of, “combining” them doesn’t make any sense. I can’t combine an image block with a paragraph block. A combine operation would need every block to define every other block that it can be combined with in a way that makes sense. Most of those don’t make sense.
So, yeah, I don’t see the need for a combine feature. Combining different blocks together isn’t something you really ever do.
