Joomla 1.5 migration

Apologies if covered elsewhere, hopefully the nuances of this one merit it’s own thread.

I have an old Joomla 1.5 site I would like to migrate to the latest version of WP.

There’s around 3000 articles I would like to import. The basics of this I understand.

The tricky bit seems to be (one of the reasons for switching) that I would like to have each article assigned to two categories (subject area and issue date in month format).

The articles are currently only categorised by subject area (the format I would like to keep), but I would also like to assign the articles to an issue based on their Joomla published date.

Therefore each article will then belong to two categories – 1) Subject, 2) Issue.

Is this possible to do in batch or is there some kind of export/import wizardry that can be deployed?
