• I know just enough WP to get myself in trouble, a little Drupal, and absolutely no Joomla. I am about to do a site for a client, and was given advice by a trusted friend, a Joomla expert, that WP just can’t do what’s needed.

He said Joomla can do it all more or less out-of-the-box but that I’d need to do a LOT of extra work to get WP to the same spot.

    Here’s what the site requires:
    — A large set of static content (100+ pages)
    — A blog and RSS feed
    — An events calendar (single entry point to get upcoming events showing up on a little calendar view in a sidebar, as well as on an Upcoming Events page)
    — A few non-technical content owners making text edits to the site and adding new pages and posts
    — Members-only content (the client has an established membership list maintained in Access; those members need to be able to view members-only content online but the client doesn’t want to have to maintain the 3,000 usernames and passwords for them)

Soooo … can WP do this, or do I really need to go learn Joomla too?!

    Thanks for any guidance.

Oh I forgot one important requirement:
    — A multi-tier nav: Probably one main nav, three levels deep (method to be determined: rollover, accordion etc.), plus at least one utility nav. Most WP themes I’ve seen have just one level of nav.

It looks like your friend gave you some sound advice.

If you need some help, you could try and ask an expert. He is known to help some free of charge and is familiar with both WP and Joomla!
