Joomla to WordPress convertion – YES! One more thread

I have searched and seen other threads about the same issue and I have replied to one, but that one is in the ‘Themes’ section, so I thought posting one here as well.

I have tried all possible scripts available, but I am still not able to import all my articles from Joomla to WordPress properly.

I tried using the script on WP 2.7. It kind of imports, but not the whole article and also it fails. Below are a few things which happen during import:

1) The script seems to “completely(1)” import articles from only a couple of Joomla categories. For the others, it fails somewhere in between with a message “Query Failed”.

2) When I meant ‘completely’ in the previous point, I am able to see the complete article being imported in the script page once it has run. But when I check in my WP admin, I can only see a part of the article.

I really have no idea where the issue is and why the script is failing for me. Any help is appreciated.

PS: I don’t mind paying someone if they are willing to get it done for me.

First off, out of curiosity, why would you want to import into WP 2.7.1? That version of WP has many vulnerabilities. You may want to consider updating WP to the newest version before you attempt to import posts. Just thought I might mention that.

The script says its good to use V 2.7. But I have tried with 2.8 and 2.9 as well. Its the same case with all those versions.

What if you tried it in a round-about way…

Joomla offers the WordPress blogging extension, plugin or component (can’t recall which it is). If you were able to install WordPress via that avenue on your Joomla site, get your blog posts moved into there first. Then see if you could create an export file from the WP blog platform from within your Joomla site, to then in turn import into your WordPress blog (apart from Joomla).

It might be a workaround for your challenge, but I don’t know if it can even be done. Just a suggestion, if it’s a possibility. Good luck.

The component which integrates WordPress into Joomla is $79.95. I really dont wanna pay so much just to get out of it :-s

Oh, that’s too bad. I was hoping what I was thinking of was open source. Do they have a free trial version? LOL.

Unfortunately not ??

I am now in a desperate situation. I was supposed to do this when I had around 100 odd articles. Then it was delayed as I surely cant move my forum posts.

Now I am willing to lose all my forum posts, but the migration isn’t happening and I have to copy/ paste around 310 articles.

Did you look at crushlabs.com? I’m not recommending them, as I know nothing about their services etc., but they do offer a service for conversion. Although it would cost you to get it done, it may be worth it so you wouldn’t lose data. Plus, depending on what your permalink structure was, you could perhaps have that preserved so your site doesn’t end up with a ton of 404’s with search engines. Here’s the info from crushlabs:

Mailed them, they are asking m $250 to move both users as well as the posts. Pretty expensive for me since I dont earn a single ‘rupee’ out of the website ??
