After getting pngout successfully installed, I noticed that my jpegtran isn’t updating. Whenever I do the automatic update, I’m told:

jpegtran was successfully installed, check the Plugin Status area for version information.

However I still am told there’s a new update and that my current version is Independent JPEG Group’s JPEGTRAN, version 6b 27-Mar-1998

    Here’s my debug info.

    pegtran path: jpegtran
    optipng path: /home/admin/domains/heyitsfree.net/public_html/wp-content/ewww/optipng
    gifsicle path: /home/admin/domains/heyitsfree.net/public_html/wp-content/ewww/gifsicle
    pngout path: /home/admin/domains/heyitsfree.net/public_html/wp-content/ewww/pngout-static
    disabled functions:
    gifsicle permissions: 0755
    optipng permissions: 0755
    wp-content/ewww permissions: 0777
    user: apache
    Operating environment: Linux 2.6.32-279.19.1.el6.x86_64 #1 SMP Wed Dec 19 07:05:20 UTC 2012 x86_64

Thanks again for all the support! I can’t wait to get this plugin up and running on my site, I desperately am in need of it.

Just to post an update. I contacted my host and was told that’s the latest version provided by Redhat for my operating system version, so I guess I’ll stick with it.

Sorry to clog up the boards!

jpegtran updates have been sticky, and I’m not sure exactly why. There are a couple possibilities, and I’m working on fixing one in the latest dev version. The other issue is that jpegtran dynamically links to a low-level library (libc) that can be missing or a different version on some servers. Haven’t really been able to come up with a work-around for that, but it would be really nice if there was a way to debug that better.
