• Hi,
I have several hundred image in a Rating Form page and as the judge moves from the full screen image to the Rating Form page to give it a Rating begins the page has jumped to the top which means the judge needs to scroll down to the thumbnail image to enter a rating.
I have tried the Rating link at top of page but it jumps all over the place and not to the next Unrated image.
Can you advise how the Rating Form page show the last rated score and the next thumbnail image?

    Regards
    Martin

This sounds as if you are somehow reloading the rating form page each time, I’m not sure why.
The idea is that the judge should, if possible, keep both pages visible side by side. The ideal setup is two monitors, with the image on one and the form on the other, but a single monitor that is big enough can work.
Also, the “Jump to first unrated item” button ought to go to the first item with nothing at all entered, but several hundred images is a lot to handle in one rating form. It might be a good idea to see if that problem remains with fewer than 100 images.

    Hi Josie,
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.
I’m using your judging system for a National Photographic exhibition and one section have 600 images.
Unfortunately I didn’t know the person judging the images is only using 1 screen. I am also only using 1 screen and the issue appears to be when it jumps moves between the image and the form.
I’ve tried the Rating (up & Down) link but you have to click on it twice to get the new unrated thumbnail which is not ideal when trying to rate 600 images.
I used your system a couple of years ago and it worked great.
    Thanks for your help.

I’m not sure what you mean by the “Rating (up & Down) link”.

You are not by any chance clicking the column-sort link, are you? That just sorts the items by that column. Maybe you have a column called “Rating”?

Higher up the page is a button labelled “Jump to First Unrated Item”.

But it should only be needed when the page is first loaded.

    Hi Josie,
My apology, the Rating is a column that I created for the judge to give the image a score.

It appears the issue is when the judge/user only has 1 screen and uses the Alt & Tab to move between screens. The “Jump to First Unrated Item” does work but you have to click on this each time to enter a score.
    I’ll work around it.
    Thanks for your help.

Try NOT using full-screen. Resize the two browser windows so both are visible side-by-side.
There should be no need to use the “Jump to First Unrated Item” each time — the visible image in the image window should always match what is selected in the scoring window. When one changes, the other should change to match.

    Hi Josie,
I did as you suggested – Resized the two browser windows so they are visible side-by-side and the problem is still there.
I tried it with “Show drop-down selection as buttons” unticked and when I entered a score in drop-down box the browser window immediately went to top of page.
I then ticked the “Show drop-down selection as buttons” and when I clicked on a score it also immediately went to top of page.
On both of the tests above I tried it with “Go to next item after setting” activated and deactivated and had the same result of page jumping to the top of page.
I also set up a judging rating for 10 images and the same problem occurred.
I also scrolled down the age on the Rating page and clicked “Next” and the Rating page moved up to top of page.
I hope this is helps to see what is causing the problem.

    Thanks
    Martin

Something is wrong here. That should not be happening.

Try checking for javascript errors. In most browsers you can do that by right-clicking in a page, selecting “inspect” and looking at the “console” tab.

If that shows nothing useful, I’d suggest re-installing ewz-rating.

Also make sure that you are running a recent version of wordpress.

    Hi Josie,
Below checked the javascript and here is what was shown in the console tab.
jquery-migrate.min.js?ver=3.3.2:2 JQMIGRATE: Migrate is installed, version 3.3.2
sutherlandshirenational.com/:1 Unchecked runtime.lastError: The message port closed before a response was received.
I tried this a few times and got the same result.
I am running WordPress vesion 5.8
I then uninstalled ewz-rating and re-installed. Created the relevant Rating Form and Rating Scheme.
Unfortunately this did not resolve the problem.

A quick web search for “Unchecked runtime.lastError: The message port closed before a response was received.” suggested disabling Chrome browser extensions.

Or it might possibly be a plugin conflict — you could try deactivating other plugins.

    Hi Josie,
You were right. It turned out to be a plugin conflict. It was a new Theme called “Neve” that I installed several months ago. When I changed it to “Twenty Twenty” theme the Rating page works properly.
I can now enter a score, the image automatically advances and when I use Alt & Tab the page has advanced down to the corresponding thumbnail. All works beautifully now.
I’m just testing it on my larger Rating page to make sure it flows smoothly. So far all is working well.
Many thanks for your patience and helping me to work through this to get it resolved.
