You are absolutely right there will be some way to turn off the functionality of Gutenberg, how is yet to be decided. The hope is as the project grows, this need will be less and less. It’s still progressing at a really rapid rate, it progresses even more with each bit of feedback – so thank you for that.

You still didn’t really address the issue of my post. Most wp sites (at least move of the sites I’ve worked on) use page building plugins or themes, and it’s not like gutenburg will have every function and plus of each of these. Also, from what I’ve read, there is very little clarification on how these themes and plugins will work once 5.0 gets released.

My apologies for not addressing the issue, let me see if I can resolve that. Right now, Gutenberg is just the editor. The next phase will be as it moves more to layout with the Customisation focus. However, version one of Gutenberg will not include that.

As far as how Gutenberg works with plugins and themes, that’s where extensive testing comes. For the lighter themes Gutenberg should work There are a lot of themes and plugins, which will take time work through but that’s where the community comes in with feedback. Through testing as many things as possible, the team can find the issues and ease and reduce the flow problems.

I find it a little hypocritical when you say “but that’s where the community comes in with feedback” when it seems the community has made it clear that they are not happy with the way Automattic (it has <i>more than double</i> 1 stars then it does 5) and yet Automattic ignores the community and seems to only care about their own agenda, whatever that may be. I’m sorry for being so blunt, it’s certainly not my nature. Totally get if people disagree, I’m just saying it like I see it.

Thank you for replying and totally understand you are passionate about this. I want to first assure you as someone from Automattic, feedback is being listened to and not ignored. There are a lot of changes happening to the project, a lot of issues from comments in forums and 1 star reviews. Personally, I encourage critical feedback as that makes us grow as a project.

Beyond the personal, everyone in the project really is wanting to make Gutenberg the best for the community. There are contributors it’s worth mentioning who do not work at Automattic and we need to as a collective recognise their amazing work. It’s easy to just see one company, but that’s not the case as there have been some incredible contributions across the community.

All that said, I do not want to take away from your feelings. You are entitled to them. I do however, want to reach out and hopefully find a way to show you people are being listened to. Actions show that right, so maybe if you have any exact things you would like looked into, I can do my best.
