• I just purchased WordPress Revealed by Matt Wolfe. I followed his instructions to creating a hosting account with HostGator. I already had a domain name using smugmug, so I figured that I could just enter that. After selecting and installing wordpress, it gave me an email containing my url/wp-admin link. When I click on that, it brings me to smugmug, which does not show anything because I closed my account and my old domain that was registered with smugmug.

Is there something I am doing wrong? I believe that when I click on the link containing the wp-admin, it should bring me to the wordpress login.

    I appreciate any help.

  • Have you pointed your smugmug domain name to your new WordPress site? If yes, were you aware that it can take up to 72 hours for the change to propagate fully?

    Wow, that was quick!

I am not sure if that was what I did. I am a beginner, and I simply typed in the same domain name that I already had. I was assuming that it would automatically redirect me to wordpress………

No. You will almost certainly have to check that your domain name is pointing to the right place. Try asking your hosts or domain registrars for assistance with this.

Okay, so I will be asking them if it is pointing to the www.ads-software.com site? Which is what I was hoping that it would do..Sorry if these questions are obvious

so I will be asking them if it is pointing to the www.ads-software.com site?

Your new site on Hostgator? Yes.

Make sure your DNS servers are the ones hostgator gave you! Wait 2 days for a refresh

You need to change you domains name servers to point to hostgator. They should be something like NS799.HOSTGATOR.COM AND NS800.HOSTGATOR.COM
    Double check with them.
