just updated and characters have changed

    I just updated from 2.3 to 2.51 and now many of my special characters have changed. For instance, a non-breaking space is now a capital A with a tilde.

    It seems that the character coding has changed. WordPress says it is utf-8 now and the database shows that also but when I look farther into the database, it says the “collation” is latin-swedish- (or something similar).

    I assume that this is the problem.

    Anyone know how to fix it? I don’t know how to work on databases at all.

    Sorry to take up space and time here. This was easily fixed by searching google for “wordpress strange characters.” Seems like many others have had the same problem and it’s very simple to fix.
