I just updated the plugin. I have Styles 1.0.17 and Styles Twenty-Thirteen 1.05.

When I was finished with the update all of my custom settings have been wiped out!! Backup from a few days ago but that will wipe out all changes. Why is the plugin update resetting all of the changes made? Do you know this is happening?

This is the only plugin updated today.

    Thanks,
    Greg

The same thing happened to me. I did the same updates as BleuPelikan mentions.
Because a automatic update didn’t work I did a manual update.
I too updated only this plugin today.

Oh my gosh -that’s not good! And no that isn’t supposed to happen. Submitting an inquiry with Paul and the gang right now! Thanks for letting us know – we will get right on this and apologize for this hiccup. I will be back in touch with both of you ASAP.

I addition to my previous post: When I deleted both plugins and installed the previous version from my backup everything works fine again. Maybe it will too if the previous version of the plugin is downloaded from the plugin site. (I don’t know if the plugin folder is changed by the user or that’s still the same as when installed.) It’s worth a try BleuPelikan.

When you deleted the plugin manually, did you do it via FTP, or through the WordPress admin? When plugins are deleted through the WordPress admin, that deletes all files and settings. That’s what this message means when it says it will delete the plugin data.

I did the update, delete and restore via FTP.

Updating the pluging via WP-admin failed.
The first time that I tried to install it manually I ran into the problem of deleting the ‘classes’ folders. When I emptied the folders I didn’t have access to those folders anymore. Could be a bug on the server and the reason the automatic update didn’t work (fortunately, because I retained my settings).
Through the control panel of my web host I recreated the ‘classes’ folder and was able to install the latest version of the plugin via FTP. When I saw my settings were gone I deleted the plugin via FTP and restored the previous version of the plugin, also via FTP.

Huh. What theme were you using Styles with? Was it by chance a child theme? (Rivanni) — I see BleuPelikan was with TwentyThirteen. Would it be possible to get a copy of your database backup to see what the data looks like?

Did restoring from your backup show the settings again right away?

I’m trying to identify if a change in settings name might have caused the settings to still be there, but no longer be accessed correctly. (Besides the uninstall, there’s not any other place in the plugin where settings get deleted.)

Thanks for your patience and help working this out. I want to make absolutely sure there’s not anything else we can do to prevent this from happening for others!

At first I started using Styles with TwentyThirteen, but later I switched to a child of TwentyThirteen. A child with minimal adjustments though.

The only thing I restored were the two plugin folders. I did not restore the database or anything else.

You can have a copy my database. Where do I send it to?

What is the name of your child theme? Did your settings stop showing in TwentyThirteen, the child, or both?

Sorry, been out for the last 4 hours. I am using a Twenty-Thirteen child theme as well that I created for CSS tweaks only.

I have a full DUPLICATOR copy of the system. Great plugin that allows you to move a system from site to site so if you want it and the installer.php in order to debug the issue, just tell me where to put the files. The .zip is about 15 meg.

    Hi Greg,

You can email the file to the address above (15megs can be emailed), or send a link to the file on your FTP.

    Paul,
You should have the files in email. Tell me if you did not receive.

The same problem happened to me today. Updated Styles through WordPress Update and zap – most (not all) of my Customization settings returned to the defaults. I use a Twenty Twelve child theme. Thankfully, I’ve well documented all my settings and they were not extensive, so I was able to reset everything relatively quickly. Hoping this doesn’t happen again, though.

Working on a fix. The settings aren’t gone-gone. Just looking for a way to bring them over.

For those wanting a quick fix, download and install version 1.0.14 to get your old settings: https://downloads.www.ads-software.com/plugin/styles.1.0.14.zip

    Solution

Thanks for your patience on this everyone. I think I have identified the code that caused this. There was a change in the way settings were stored that needed a migration script.

I have reverted this behavior back to the old method in the version just released: 1.0.18.

Please run the upgrade. This should cause your old settings to re-appear.

I’ll create and test a migration script over the next couple of weeks. This will allow the necessary update to be made without anyone losing their old settings!!
