Just works and no surprises

I started out intending to install this plugin then got seduced into installing “Content Aware Sidebars” by its self promotion (#1 widget area plugin…), by the fact it was updated more recently, and by the number of reviews. This was a mistake.

First of all, Content Aware Sidebars doesn’t actually give you all the features it promises you up front, it gives you 40% of them and then asks for cash for the rest.

Secondly, it doesn’t actually work as well as Widget Context. It doesn’t allow you to select to show or not show a widget based on the two special “posts” and “front” type pages. Widget Context gives control based on any kind of page or post, or even by URL. Fantastic plugin. Open source. No surprises after installation. Well done!
