• I go to wp-admin. Login box comes up. Put in user name and password. Password disappears, get frustrated, reset password with same password, works sometimes. Get to control page. Some links work, others send me back to login box, used three different passwords. Sometimes they work, other times they don’t. I always seem to end back at the login box with the password not working. Unable to move forward, Arrgh!

  • Try:
    – switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

    – running the upgrade manually via wp-admin/upgrade.php

Good suggestions but this was the very first time I tried to log on to wordpress after doing the easy install through my host. They walked me through the process. The following set-up was checked and came out OK. 1. The FTP login, 2. Checking the remote location, 3. The Database Collection.
I tried repeating the install process again this evening, with the same poor results. How can I change anything if I can’t get to, or stay in the first page? Hands are in the air wondering what to do next?????

Have you spoken to your hosts about this? Some hosts applied rather “dodgy” fixes to WordPress logins after a spate of recent bot attacks.
