When I try to add Adsense and Google Tag Manager to Site Kit by Google it puts me in an endless loop of “Additional Permissions Required” and won’t connect these. When I try to connect the first time I grant all the requested permissions and it seem to progress nicely till the “Additional Permissions Required” popup appears and the only option is to repeat the process again and again (after the first attempt – all possible permission choices are shown as granted).

I was able to connect Analytics successfully.

    I’ve tried:
    – disconnecting all items, deactivating the plugin, deleting the plugin, removing Site Kit permissions in myaccount.google.com and clearing all cache
    – I then reinstall and activate Site Kit
    The same issue occurs.

I have also tried this process in an incognito window – same results.

Subsequent to this I noticed that Search Console was now saying it wasn’t verified so I added the TXT record to my DNS settings on my CDN(cloudflare) and it verified.

Trying the process again it now shows Analytics connected but needs to be redone since I didn’t grant all the permissions. It shows 6 items granted but doesn’t offer any more options to grant additional permissions.

Wordpress, themes, plugin, PHP are all up to date.

What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hello @mwschaff and thanks for reaching out and sharing the details of the problem you are facing. If you previously granted Site Kit full permissions then they should not be requested once more. If you can share the following we’d be happy to look into this for you:

    1. Your Site Health information. You can use this form to share privately if preferred.
    2. When trying to connect your Google services can you see any browser console errors? If so could you please share these.
    3. Are you using any other plugins with integrated Google services?

I have also noticed that you are using the Autoptimize plugin. Are you able to temporarily disable this and try connecting your services once more to see if this makes any difference?

Please let me know if you have questions on any of the above.

Just a quick remark FYI: Autoptimize does not optimize the backend (wp-admin), so it is very unlikely that AO is interfering here?

I have submitted the Site Health information via the form you suggested.

    No browser console errors.

Other plugins with integrated Google Services are Advanced Ads and CAOS | Complete Analytics Optimization Suite

When I go through the process on connecting it seems to recognize that the permissions have already been give but when it “completes” is says I’ve not give the necessary permissions and the only option is to repeat the process or cancel. Repeating the process gives the same result.

    Thanks for your help

@mwschaff thank you for providing the information. I can see that you have quite a few active plugins on your site and it would be helpful to rule out any conflict here that could be causing this issue. Please would you be able to follow the instructions below:

    1. Login to your site from a Chrome browser incognito window.
    2. Install and activate the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin.
    3. Navigate to “Plugins > Health Check & Troubleshooting > Troubleshoot”.
    4. From the same screen click on the “Available Plugins” tab at the top right and then click on the “Enable” option next to “Site Kit by Google”.
    5. Attempt to setup the plugin once more.

This won’t affect what the user will see when visiting your site and will highlight if there are any plugin conflicts.

Doing what you suggested I was able to connect Adsense, Analytics, and Tag Manager without a problem.

I first connect Adsense – this time it gave me the screen to check that Auto Ads was on and the site showed as ready. Didn’t get this in previous attempts

@mwschaff Glad to hear that you were able to connect all of the modules you needed in Site Kit. Was this when you had all plugins disabled apart from Site Kit?

This indicates that one of your plugins was causing a conflict and to check which this could be you can continue to use the Health Check and Troubleshooting plugin to enable other plugins one by one checking your Site Kit each time.

If you then enable a plugin and your Site Kit has disconnected or lost permissions then you will know which plugin is the cause here.

Please do let me know if you have any further questions.

Will do. Thank you very much for your help.

Update: Realized I failed to answer your question. Yes the only plugin I enabled when in the troubleshooting mode was Site Kit.
