Keep getting phantom comments?

    I’m relatively new to blogs, and very new to moderating one.

    Something weird has been happening, I’m not sure what to do- I don’t really understand the functionality, or workflow, of moderating.

    Most of the tutorials and guides seem to relate to building the site, but I could use a basic step-by-step on moderating.

    The weird thing that has been happening:
    Several months ago I set up a WP site with about 5 blog posts. A month or so ago I started getting email alerts about comments.

    All of them are generic and unrelated, some are advertisements. The emails of the posters are usually long and complicated, suggesting they are not actualy email addresses or something.

    I’m not sure if they are bogus or legitimate.

    Any guidance is very much appreciated. Thx

  • They’re spam. Try installing & activating the Akismet plugin.

    Ok thank you. Since my original post I googled around and looked at plugins, I have now installed an anti-spam plugin.

    Should have done that first probably. All good for now.
