Keeping away unwanted spam

  • I have just started using wordpress and I was wondering how users of wordpress keep away unwanted spam e.g. Poker sites, porn, and nasty hate mail.

  • Which version of WordPress are you using? The latest, V 2.0.2, comes with Akismet, a plugin that stops almost all spam. You have to sign up for wordpress.com to get an API key, but once you do thatt you can enterr the key into your regular blog and Akismet will get to work for you.

    I am not sure about the version of wordpress, how can I check that? (I think it is wordpress1.5.1)
    Our web host provider is Hostmysite and through them we are using the wordpress blog.
    btw I did not see “Akismet” listed on the plugins page so I went ahead and installed it and activated using the API key that I got after signing up at wordpress.com

    The version # should be at the bottom of every admin page in your WordPress installation.
