I am trying to import about 84 posts, which also tries to create misisng authors as well, but it times out everys ingle time.
I have increased the max timeout to 3000, but it still does it.

Hi @lordsnake – the first thing I would recommend checking is talking to your host and seeing if they can increase the PHP memory and timeout on your hosting setup generally to see if that helps.

I have increased the max?timeout?to 3000, but it still does it.

Could you please tell me how you made this change?

OK! As Jordan said, you can try increasing the PHP memory limit/timeout further. If that’s not possible, you could also try splitting up your import file into smaller chunks using a WXR File Splitter tool.

the time taken before the error occured was definately less than the 3000 timeout value, i ended up just exporting 1 month at a time which solved it.

I’m glad to hear you were able to get that all imported. If you do continue having trouble with timeouts I’d recommend getting in touch with your host to ask about it. It’s definitely possible they would have settings at the hosting level which may over-ride your own personal settings.

With you having sorted that out, we would love if you would mark this topic as resolved in the sidebar. This helps our volunteers find the topics that still need attention and more people will get helped, possibly like you did.
