Key / Value

I have created a form field to select from a list of links. When I add the title and link using the key \ value syntax, the select field just displays all of the text. Here is an example:
February 22, 2015 – Fifth Sunday of Lent \ https://usccb.org/bible/readings/022215.cfm. This whole line is included in the post. Can you tell me how this should work or how I can make it work.
