    Hi, I try to set the best possible key phrase for a page with Yoast. Just so I understand this correctly, the key phrases are the words I think the user will search for and then my page show up in google search? But what are the relations for key phrases to meta description? Should all my key phrases also appear in my meta description?

    It is recommended to use the focus keyphrases in the meta description as search engines detect the focus keyphrases from particular points of the page. You may want to take a look at the relevant guide here that you might find helpful regarding this.

    Is focus key phrase the same as meta keywords?

    Lets say I in meta description have this …

    “Welcome to our wonderful bookstore in downtown Chicago”

    I then add the following key phrases ..

    Books used books Stephen King novels

    Is this all wrong then? It seems hard to create a description that has all the different keywords a user can search for, I mean I want to have as many keywords as possible even the ones they misspell, but I don’t want a description with misspelled word and a meaning that doesn’t make any sense. Are you with me?

    We get that it could be confusing for some.
    Focus keyphrase/keyword is the search term that you want a page or post to rank for most. If you set a focus keyphrase for a page in the meta box, the plugin evaluates the page’s content and provides feedback on how to improve the content to increase the chances of ranking higher for that search term.

    Meta keywords on the other hand were meta tags you add on a page, indicating that page’s main keywords. This is outputted on the source code that was used as ranking factors. However, meta keywords are no longer used these days. You can read more about it here: https://yoast.com/meta-keywords/.
