Our WP Job Manager does not show any results when using keywords (search_keywords field).

Also when I disable custom fields filter, the keywords do not work.

    Hi @wp_user1

Generally, when the keyword search isn’t working, it indicates that there is a theme or plugin conflict.

In order to test this, the next step is to look for a theme or plugin conflict. The Health Check plugin’s “Troubleshooting Mode” is a good way to do this. It allows you to make changes to your site without them reflecting on the frontend. You can download that plugin here:

    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/health-check/

Once you’ve installed and activated the plugin, you can go to Tools → Site Health:

    * Select the Troubleshooting tab and then click Enable Troubleshooting to automatically disable all plugins and add a new Troubleshooting Menu item in the toolbar at the top of the wp-admin dashboard.
    * From here, you can enable and disable plugins and change the theme for your site, but without affecting normal visitors to your site.

I recommend starting by testing with a different theme. Please try with a default theme such as “Storefront” and see if you experience the same issue. If you do not, the issue is with your theme. You will need to reach out to your theme developers for a fix.

If it isn’t a theme issue, you will need to test for a plugin conflict. Within Health Check, please disable all plugins other than WP Job Manager and test again. If it works as expected, you know that the issue is with one of your plugins. Please enable your plugins one at a time, testing after each one, until you encounter the issue again. Once you do, you will know which plugin is causing the issue. At that point, you can either leave it disabled or reach out to the developers for a fix.

Let us know what you find out and we can take another look as needed.

Hey, thanks for that very general answer ??

It did not help here. The search does not work when standard wordpress theme is activated.

The custom search does work (we have some custom fields).
Only the keyword search does not.

Is it possible to get a debug of the query? Perhaps there is something wrong.

    Hi @wp_user1,

Thanks for the follow-up. Can you confirm that the search by location works as well?

I tried to search with keywords and locations and I didn’t get any results. You confirmed that the issue persists while using a default theme, what about the plugins? have you got the chance to troubleshoot them, looking for any potential clash?

I insist on this as once you find out a potential plugin conflicting, disabling it might not be enough. All (including bad and nonexistent) search results are cached as transients. After disabling plugins or a theme, you may need to edit any job posting (a slight change such as adding a blank is enough) and save it. Then try the keyword search again.

I’d like to replicate this at my end, so the more information you can share, the better! Feel free to attach a screenshot/screencast in your next reply if you think it can be useful to me.?

You can create screenshots using something like Snipboard or Imgur and post the link here.

Let me know what you find out!

Our customized geodata search does work.

You can try for example “Berlin” and then you find one entry with the standard 20km radius, but even more with bigger radius.

    See example here:

    The other fields works too.
Only the keyword search always bring zero results..

    Hi there,

Can you please set up a staging site for us and contact us from here? When contacting please add the link of this thread there.

We also need Admin account username/email address and password for the staging site to check for the issue but please don’t share it here or in the above form. Once we will receive your query via the above form, we will share a secure form over email where you can share the login credentials.

Okay I sent a support request there!

    Hi @wp_user1,

Thanks for sending that in! I’ll go ahead and close this thread so we can continue from that support request.

Just as a side note, typically we are not able to provide deep troubleshooting through a staging site like this, this is a one time exception.

Summary: We found the WP Job Manager plugin was not updated. As the plugin gets updated to the latest version, the keyword search starts to work.

Hey @wp_user1 – We have also sent you an email with more details there. You can check it and reply to us there. ??

    Hey Animesh,
    thanks for your feedback.

I suppose, it’s not the final solution ??

I realized after your examples, that the search function seems to be case-sensitive. How can we avoid that? I guess, it’s always a problem in languages like German.

But there seems to be another issue, that searching does not work fine. I sent you a few examples, where you get no result – even with correct spelling.

    Kind regards
    Daniel

    Hi @wp_user1

We’ve responded via email and indicated that we’re unable to reproduce the issue you describe. On your site we’re seeing results for the example you gave regardless of the case. In order to provide you with the best support, please limit your responses to the email thread.
