I was working on my maiden WP website which is running locally on my Mac via MAMP when I thought that some of my saved edits weren’t being properly recorded so I decided to do a Safari Reset while my site was still open.

That kicked me off my site and apparently off WP because when I try to get back to my Dashboard I get asked for my WP username and password. But for some reason, the originals no longer work – so I clicked on the “Lost password” link (30 minutes ago) and keep checking my mail but nothing has come through yet.

I assume I brought this upon myself – but why did my username and password stop working? And how long should I expect to wait for the email?

    Thanks for your help.

  • On a default MAMP install on your Mac, you will not have the email recovery option, so you can stop waiting ??

With MAMP, you have phpMyAdmin access to try this method:

    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Resetting_Your_Password#Through_phpMyAdmin

However, that doesn’t really explain why it happened in the first place. Generally, resetting Safari like that should have no effect. Try using another browser would be the first thing I would do ??

Thank you, 2ninerniner2. Turns out I was trying to use the wrong password! I don’t know why I have multiple passwords for WP but I should have just tried admin/admin right away.

I guess no browser is perfect…and most people don’t change their partner when they discover their imperfections. Anyway, I owe plenty to Steve Jobs and a sub-optimal browser is a small price to pay.
