kinda lightbox post loading

hi all,
I was looking for a nice portfolio theme and I saw this one that really interested me. I already own a site on cargocollective (who host the theme) but I’d really prefer to achieve something similar on wordpress.

basically what I’d like is a grid portfolio that open the post on a lightbox looking thing, but how can I get it like the one in that website? there, it’s nice to get something slightly different from a real lightbox, it seems more like a ajax jquery content loader, and it’s cool that you get a permalink and not just a …# link, do you guys know what tecnology it was used to make it?
