Kitchen sink placing CSS class in wrong tag

Whenever I use the dropdown menu to apply the colorbox class to a link, it puts the css class in the
<p>tag instead of the<a>tag. Is there anyway to change this?I am using a custom theme so that might actually be the conflict, but I’m not sure.
